Obesity operations

Slimming or weight loss operations have been associated in the past to treat the problem of obesity and overweight only. But over time doctors have found that weight-loss operations may have other therapeutic goals besides their primary goal. From here began the development of weight loss processes, and their types and names varied to suit all cases of obese patients and to treat diseases and complications that may happen due to obesity.

As we know, obesity is not just overweight but a disease that has serious consequences and causes many other health problems directly or indirectly.

What are the consequences or complications that obesity causes directly or indirectly?

cardiovascular diseases:

The obese patient is more likely than others to develop atherosclerotic diseases due to high cholesterol leading to heart disease.

Type II diabetes:

The obese patient is at risk of developing type II diabetes for several reasons such as the occurrence of insulin resistance due to the accumulation of fat in the abdominal area in addition to overeating foods that contain a large amount of sugar.

Inflammation of the joints and spine:

It is caused by excess weight on the joints, which leads to inflammation and sometimes may even lead to cartilage erosion, which in turn leads to difficulty in movement and severe pain.

Delayed pregnancy:

Obesity causes delayed pregnancy in women and men, for women, there is a hormonal imbalance that leads to PCOS, which in turn causes delayed pregnancy, while for men obesity negatively affects the number and quality of sperm and thus delays in pregnancy.

Depression:

Doctors have found that there is a strong link between obesity and the incidence of depression, anxiety and stress. By getting rid of obesity, there is a spontaneous improvement in the patient’s mental health.

Cancer:

Obesity increases the likelihood of a patient developing certain types of cancer.

Before Bariatric Surgery

We take into account the features of eating and drinking, diabetes, lifestyle and the condition of other diseases. Surgery can usually be performed between the ages of 18-60.

Gastric sleeve surgery:

It is suitable for those who suffer from a large size of the stomach and a lack of control over the feeling of hunger continuously, the sleeve surgery is done by reducing the size of the stomach by 80% with the removal of the part responsible for the secretion of the hunger hormone Endoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is the process of reducing the size of the stomach by an endoscope, which enters from the mouth without an incision. The patient starts the process of weight loss in a healthy way after the operation and permanent results can be reached in a short time. At the end of the first year, the average weight loss is 17-20% and in this way, the desired form is achieved in terms of aesthetic appearance and prevention of many serious diseases caused by obesity.

Gastric bypass operation:

This is done by separating the upper part of the stomach and make it small as the size of the pocket in addition to removing the part responsible for feeling hungry, bypassing the first section of the intestine and thus reducing the amount of food eaten while reducing the absorption of sugar from the intestine which maintains a balanced rate of sugar in the blood, this surgery is very suitable for obese patients suffering from diabetes type II where excess weight is eliminated and diabetes is cured at the same time

Gastric balloon

It is a type of weight loss procedure, in which a silicone balloon filled with salt is placed in your stomach, which helps you lose weight by limiting the amount of food you can eat, and it also makes you feel full faster. The doctor inserts a thin tube (catheter), and the balloon is placed on it through the throat in your stomach.

Your doctor inserts an endoscope — a flexible tube with an attached camera — down your throat into your stomach, where the small camera allows your doctor to see the balloon as he fills it with saline.

Stomach Botox

Stomach Botox works to reduce weight by blocking the nerve responsible for feeling hungry from sending signals to the brain and preventing the stomach from emptying easily, causing a feeling of fullness for a longer period of time and reducing the amount of food which an individual eats.
The effect of Botox may last for about 6 months, and in some people its effect may be a year.
